Cavy lifespan: survival analysis and lifetables for the pet guinea pig (Cavia porcellus, L.) in Britain

The lifespan of the guinea pig in the wild is reported to be around 3 years, however, many do not pass their first year (Eisenberg, 1989). The survivability of the pet guinea pig has never been studied before with real data, nor have life tables been produced. It is therefore difficult to discuss the results of the present study by comparison with those of other authors.
