‘Why Evanston is such a special place’: Hundreds embrace community at Main Street Fair

Evanston’s Main Street Fair returned for its second year Saturday, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The free, all-day festival ran from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Chicago Avenue, drawing large crowds who enjoyed more than 100 vendors, live music, food and family-friendly activities.

On May 31, organizers Jana Westover, Liz Haag Schroeder and Natalia Moreno Polomarkakis were busy setting up for the final Buddy Ball game of the spring season at James Park. Alongside them, high school volunteer coaches were assembling players for some warm-up exercises before the game began. On the bleachers, a young player was taking a few minutes to regroup before joining his teammates.
