Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job was working at Missouri State University's The Standard as a news reporter. I was paid 20 bucks per article.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

My parents had one that I used to play with when I was a child. I would put on glasses and pretend to be Clark Kent.

How is social media changing news?

News is released faster than ever. The problem is trying to get the news out first and doing it accurately. Today's demands make it harder.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent, of course.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use my laptop, a Canon T3 camera, a digital recorder, and my Samsung S3 phone.

Why did you become a journalist?

I wanted to do something I love, and help people. This job is the perfect mixture of work and excitement. There's something new every day.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My favorite story I have worked on was "Veteran racer questions Shootout course safety". Fast boats and danger? Who won't read that?
