University of Missouri System President announces resignation

University of Missouri System President announces resignation

KRCGTV.com — University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe announced Monday that he is resigning from his post amid racial tension. His resignation is effective immediately, Wolfe said. Wolfe's resignation comes as the University of Missouri Board of Curators entered into a special meeting Monday morning amid protests against racism and discrimination at the campus. Wolfe addressed the board on Monday, saying he takes full responsibility for the controversy at the University of Missouri, and wants everyone to use his resignation as a healing process. In a statement issued late Monday morning, Governor Jay Nixon said Wolfe's resignation was needed to move forward.

krcgtv.com — More than 30 African-American football players for the University of Missouri say they will no longer take part in football activities until University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe is fired or resigns. This has prompted the Missouri Board of Curators to schedule a special executive session meeting for Monday morning at 10 a.m. According to an agenda provided in the statement, part of the meeting will be closed to the public. The statement says Missouri law allows the group to meet in a private "executive session" to discuss topics such as personnel matters or privileged communications with university counsel.

Trump calls MU protests "disgusting" and "disgraceful"

KRCGTV.com — Donald Trump is speaking out about the protests at the University of Missouri, calling it "disgusting" and "disgraceful". "I think the two people who resigned are weak, ineffective people," Donald Trump said on Fox News Thursday morning. "When they resigned, they set something in motion that's going to be a disaster for the next long period of time." Trump is, of course, referring to University of Missouri Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin and system president Tim Wolfe, who both announced their resignations on Monday. He went on to say that he should have been the chancellor of the university, saying "believe me, there would have been no resignation".

Governor Nixon activates National Guard to assist with flooding

krcgtv.com — Following three days of heavy rain, the floodwaters are finally beginning to recede. But Missouri is still listed under a state of emergency, and over 100 roads still remain closed. "It's been a challenge all day and yesterday, as we've been preparing and planning for some of these roads to go under, to manage these routes, and keep them open as long as we can," MoDOT District Engineer David Silvester said. Hundreds have been forced from their homes by the high waters, and the amount of damage the flooding has done is still unknown.

krcgtv.com — Parts of the Midwest remain under water following torrential rains, and authorities now blame the flooding for nearly two dozen deaths. It's been almost a week since the torrential rains hit Missouri, bringing historic floodwaters to the Midwest. Roads continue to open up across the state, with all interstates cleared for traffic, but some of the lesser roads are still under water. And the record-high water levels have been disrupting train traffic as well. Union Pacific says two sections of track in Missouri are out of service because of rising waters. And one closure, running from Jefferson City to St.
