POMPOMS: Crosslinked Biomolecular Condensates as a Versatile Platform for Multifunctional Protein Microparticles
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) lack a defined tertiary structure and instead adopt an ensemble of interconverting conformations. (1−3) The structural plasticity of IDPs allows many of them to undergo liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). Biomolecular LLPS is a thermodynamic phenomenon where proteins and other biomolecules demix into dense, liquid-like coacervates.
Expanding the molecular language of protein liquid–liquid phase separation - Nature Chemistry
Abstract Understanding the relationship between a polypeptide sequence and its phase separation has important implications for analysing cellular function, treating disease and designing novel biomaterials. Several sequence features have been identified as drivers for protein liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS), schematized as a ‘molecular grammar’ for LLPS.
Surface tension and viscosity of protein condensates quantified by micropipette aspiration
Abstract The material properties of biomolecular condensates have been suggested to play important biological and pathological roles. Despite the rapid increase in the number of biomolecules identified that undergo liquid-liquid phase separation, quantitative studies and direct measurements of the material properties of the resulting condensates have been severely lagging behind.
Identifying sequence perturbations to an intrinsically disordered protein that determine its phase-separation behavior
Two ancient asteroids with distinctive diamond-like shapes are revealing clues not only about their own formation, but that of the solar system as well.
Illinois Legislature Legalizes Recreational Marijuana - An Overview of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act | JD Supra
HIGHLIGHTS: On May 31, 2019, the Illinois General Assembly adopted the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (the Act) – legalizing the sale, possession and use of marijuana for recreational purposes by adults over age 21 starting Jan. 1, 2020. If signed into law by the governor, Illinois will be the first state to legalize the recreational use of cannabis by legislative action rather than by public referendum.

New Procedures for Handling Juvenile Police Records for Illinois Municipalities
A new amendment to the Illinois Juvenile Court Act (JCA) (705 ILCS 405/1-1 et seq.) concerning disclosure and expungement of juvenile law enforcement records took effect on Jan. 1, 2018. The new law, Public Act 100-0285, further prevents the public from accessing juvenile law enforcement records and provides additional privacy protections to juveniles who were arrested or had interactions with law enforcement.
