Don't judge Jimmy Carter's life by his four years in Washington. He was our president to be sure, but he was so much more. It is too often said of a man or woman that he or she changed the world. Carter is among the very few who did, in fact, change the world. And he is even rarer in that he actually left the place better for his goodness and vigor. In many ways, Jimmy Carter was the Best American.

Glynn County Commission ends contract talks with Chapman

The Glynn County Commission ended its controversial and divisive pursuit of Jeff Chapman to be county administrator Thursday evening saying the county and Chapman had failed to reach an agreement on the terms of his employment. The commissioners added its decision to the agenda at the end of its regular meeting. The commission voted without comment or opposition to approve a statement that declared that negotiations with Chapman over.

Glynn County manager contract: $225K with 160 days off a year

Jeff Chapman’s salary as Glynn County manager would be $225,000 a year, about $44,000 more than his predecessor was paid and more than double his salary as county tax commissioner, according to the terms of his proposed county contract. Chapman, who was suddenly named the sole finalist for the job last week, also would be provided the equivalent of 160 days per year in personal leave and a $750 monthly car allowance, according to the agreement drafted by Chapman’s personal attorney, Ken Jarrard.
