Born in Mechelen, Belgium, Carine Feyten grew up speaking French at home and Flemish Dutch around town, later adding German, English, and Spanish to her repertoire. She attended an all-girls Catholic boarding school before moving to Florida in the early 1980s, where she earned her PhD. After serving as a professor and dean, she became chancellor of Texas Woman’s University in 2014, where she recently led the school to surpass its $125 million Dream Big campaign ahead of schedule.

As a young investment banker, Peter Matt planned to go to law school. But he didn’t get into the schools he wanted to attend. “I was very disappointed,” he says, “but I remember my father’s simple, but sound advice: ‘Take a year to really consider whether this is what you want.’” The pause helped him realize how much he enjoyed business—and he has never looked back. Today, Matt leads Irving-based Commercial Metals Co., one of America’s largest steel manufacturers and recyclers.
