An exceptionally preserved 110 million years old praying mantis provides new insights into the predatory behaviour of early mantodeans

We present here a new specimen of S . axelrodi . Its morphology indicates that the character evolution in the early lineage of Mantodea was in fact more complex than anticipated. We also discuss a new interpretation of the raptorial behaviour of S . axelrodi and early mantodeans in general. Raptoblatta waddingtonae Dittmann et al., 2015 is a rather roach-like species only known from the holotype, found in the Crato Formation, Brazil ( Dittmann et al., 2015 ).
