1. Introduction A physical unclonable function (PUF) is a hardware security primitive that is tasked with generating random bitstrings and encryption keys. The security properties of a PUF architecture are closely tied to the physical layer components that define its source of entropy, i.e., the layout characteristics of the circuit structure from which random variations are measured, digitized, and processed into bitstrings.
