Couple documents renovation of 100-year-old Pottsville church
In 2024, Whitney Anderson left everything she knew behind in New York City and purchased an abandoned 1898 church in Michigan for $45,000 with the mission of transforming it into her dream home. Well, so far, she’s right on track! This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Freeman and Hartung: The trillion dollar Iran war
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... In late 2002, as the U.S. was on the precipice of invading Iraq, the president’s top budget official estimated that the war would cost as little as $50 billion. That conflict ultimately cost American taxpayers more than $3 trillion, and we’re still paying the bill. Fast forward to 2026 and the U.S. has embarked on another war of choice in the Middle East, and we’re told the price-tag is once again a mere $50 billion. Sound familiar?

Urgent Foreign Policy Steps Biden Should Take in 2023
It's been an extraordinary year in foreign policy, dominated by an ongoing, brutal war following the February Russian invasion of Ukraine. NATO, struggling with its mission before 2022, appearsmore emboldened and unified than ever. Meanwhile, tensions have continued to roil between the U.S. and China on a number of fronts, not the least, the fate of Taiwan.
Our new national (in)security
The inadequate response of both the federal and state governments to the Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the United States, creating what could only be called a national security crisis. More than 190,000 Americans are dead, approximately half of them people of color. Yelp data show that more than 132,000 businesses have already closed and census data suggest that, thanks to lost wages, nearly 17% of Americans with children can't afford to feed them enough food.
