What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job as a journalist was a remote sports writer for a small weekly paper in my hometown. I didn’t get paid for it.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, but I’d like to own one just to have as a prized piece around the house or office.

How is social media changing news?

Social media is huge. Instead of fouls, people tend to go to Twitter or Facebook to get their news.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to tell stories in the most unbiased way possible.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Mix and match. I can come up with ideas but at times will need ideas pitched when needed.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Word, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Okta

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not, but I wrote articles remotely in college for my hometown paper based on MaxPreps stats posted by the school.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Read other writers’ stories, and practice.
