An in vitro evaluation of fibrinogen and gelatin containing cryogels as dermal regeneration scaffolds
Macroporous cryogels containing mixtures of two key components of the dermal extracellular matrix, fibrinogen and collagen-derived gelatin, were evaluated for use as dermal tissue regeneration scaffolds. The infiltration of human dermal fibroblasts into these matrices was quantitatively assessed in vitro using a combination of cell culture and confocal laser scanning microscopy.
GUN4-Protoporphyrin IX Is a Singlet Oxygen Generator with Consequences for Plastid Retrograde Signaling
The genomes uncoupled 4 (GUN4) protein is a nuclear-encoded, chloroplast-localized, porphyrin-binding protein implicated in retrograde signaling between the chloroplast and nucleus, although its exact role in this process is still unclear. Functionally, it enhances Mg-chelatase activity in the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway.
Synthetic Evolution of Metabolic Productivity Using Biosensors
Synthetic biology has progressed to the point where genes that encode whole metabolic pathways and even genomes can be manufactured and brought to life. This impressive ability to synthesise and assemble DNA is not yet matched by an ability to predictively engineer biology.
Solution-based routes to ammine metal borohydrides: formation of ammonia-borane
Ammine metal borohydrides (AMBs) have recently commanded attention as low-temperature hydrogen sources. As an alternative to widely used mechanochemical synthesis that affords mixtures with salt co-products, we have been investigating solution synthesis routes to obtain pure AMBs. Here we show that reactions of MCl + nNaBH with ammonia in thf afford ammonia-borane (AB) via borane abstraction from M-coordinated borohydride.
The rise of 3-d single-ion magnets in molecular magnetism: towards materials from molecules?
Single-molecule magnets (SMMs) that contain one spin centre (so-called single-ion magnets) theoretically represent the smallest possible unit for spin-based electronic devices. The realisation of this and related technologies, depends on first being able to design systems with sufficiently large energy barriers to magnetisation reversal, U , and secondly, on being able to organise these molecules into addressable arrays.
A versatile method for the preparation of carbon-rhodium hybrid catalysts on graphene and carbon black
Strategies for combining the selectivity and efficiency of homogeneous organometallic catalysts with the versatility of heterogeneous catalysts are urgently needed. Herein a direct and modular methodology is presented that provides rapid access to well-defined carbon–rhodium hybrid catalysts. A pre-synthesized Rh( ) complex containing a carbene-triazole ligand was found to be stable for direct immobilization onto unactivated graphene, carbon black and glassy carbon electrodes.

Catalysis Science & Technology
The light mediated reduction of unactivated carbon–halogen bonds using polynuclear gold( ) complexes provides a mild and temporally controlled route to the generation of C–H, and C–C bonds.
Taking the Operant Paradigm into the Field: Associative Learning in Wild Great Tits
Associative learning is essential for resource acquisition, predator avoidance and reproduction in a wide diversity of species, and is therefore a key target for evolutionary and comparative cognition research. Automated operant devices can greatly enhance the study of associative learning and yet their use has been mainly restricted to laboratory conditions.
