5 LIMITATIONS Our study was a retrospective, nonrandomized, single-centre study. The choice of antiplatelet and anticoagulation duration and therapy were determined at the discretion of the operators and based on the patient's clinical condition. Antiplatelet and OAC groups were assigned based on discharge medication data. Compliance to antithrombotic regimens post discharge was unable to be accurately assessed. The exact duration of DAPT or OAC therapy post-TAVR could not be assessed.

Both the US and European valve guidelines focus on the need for mechanical intervention in severe valvular heart disease (VHD) where intervention may be life-saving1,2. Indeed mechanical intervention is recommended in almost all cases of severe symptomatic disease and in asymptomatic valve patients with ventricular dysfunction. There are also many class 2 indications for intervention even in severe asymptomatic disease with “normal” ventricular function.
