Ventura watches - why no love?
I'm new to watches and I'm looking for answers as to why Ventura watches aren't more coveted. I see these come up from time to time but they're usually a hard sell for the eBayer. I once had the smaller version of this watch that I bought after meeting someone who had one and thinking it was the ..... I'd love to get the larger version. As some of you may know, there was a recent thread on watches that can go anywhere, do anything. My contention is that the mechanicals cannot contend with digital watches, if going anywhere and doing anything includes anything adventurous. While we could debate the definition to you, dear reader, this thread is not about you. It is about me. And my adventures. Chipped Sapphire
So while innocently fondling my Exp. I noticed a near imperceptible chip in the sapphire around the 11 o’clock. It’s very tiny, but definitely there. My question, how many of you are ok with and tolerate tiny chips in the sapphire? Is this an auto send back for some of you or do you keep it until general service or a more significant ding? Welcome to the first installment of Hit Play!, a bimonthly column (at least in the beginning) dedicated to the ultimate in music and sound on 15-ips reel-to-reel tape. Why devote space to a column about an obsolete analog format? Easy. Tape is far from obsolete! To start, three companies (Analog Audio Design (France)/Metaxas (Holland)/Ballfinger (Germany) are manufacturing new reel-to-reel tape machines (plus there are countless other pro- and consumer machines still around).

Reel-To-Reel Tape - Positive Feedback
When all is said and done, it's all about the source material. The better the source material, the better the system sounds. (It's amazing how a master tape can make bad speakers sound like a million dollars!) The best source here being 15-ips reel-to-reel tape. Now making the best sounding consumer 15-ips, 2-track reel-to-reel tapes (and LPs) requires getting as close to the original master tape as is humanly possible.

Abey Fonn, President of Impex Records, always likes a good challenge. But Impex Records' latest project required Abey to dip deep into her bag of tricks to come up with the ultimate vinyl version of Patricia Barber's Nightclub.
