Being from a relatively small town called Burnley in the north of England, I always assumed I had to travel to the bigger cities to practise street photography. For a long time I spent my days off catching the train to Manchester, wandering around with my camera. It felt like the natural thing to do. Cities are often seen as the heart of street photography: busy streets, constant movement, and an endless supply of strangers.

Brazil, November 2025 — Notes from a Month Between Water, Politics and Everyday Life I spent the entire month of November 2025 in Brazil. Five weeks moving through very different worlds that are, in reality, deeply connected: Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belém during COP30, the island of Marajó, Manaus and the upper Rio Negro, especially São Gabriel da Cachoeira. I travelled as a scientist, as a photographer, and as someone who has worked in Amazonian floodplains for most of her life.
