Riverside’s Marrello cruises to county judge seat

Rachel Marrello (Provided) Riverside resident Rachel Marrello is on her way to becoming a Cook County Circuit Court judge. In the March 17 Democratic primary Marrello easily defeated former Riverside resident Martin Reggi in a race in the 3rd Judicial Subcircuit which covers much of Riverside and part of Brookfield and extends to Berwyn, Cicero and parts of the southwest side of Chicago. Marrello received 14,089 votes (72%) while the 74-year-old Reggi received 5,403 votes (28%).

Hernandez takes narrow win in race for Cook County board

Miranda Hernandez (Provided) Riverside resident Miranda Hernandez has apparently won a tightly contested three-way Democratic primary race for a seat on the Cook County board. Since no Republican or Libertarian has filed to run in the 16th District the 34-year-old Hernandez appears set to join the county board after the November general election. The 16th District includes Riverside and Brookfield and runs from Cicero to Franklin Park and includes a very small slice of the city of Chicago.

Lyons’ Getty joins batch of independents running in Nov. for 4th District seat in congress

Christopher Getty (Village of Lyons) Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty has announced he is running for Congress as an independent. Getty joins Chicago alderman Bryon Sigcho-Lopez, former Democratic Party operative Mayra Macias, and activist Lindsay Church in announcing that they are running as independents to challenge Jesus “Chuy” Garica’s handpicked successor Patty Garcia. The two Garcias are not related.
