Biased MJO causing a lack of QBO–MJO connection in multi-model simulations with a nudged QBO
Observations suggest that the stratospheric Quasi-biennial Oscillation (QBO) modulates the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) in the tropical troposphere, where the MJO is stronger with a smoother eastward propagation in the boreal winter seasons with a QBO easterly (QBOE) than that with a QBO westerly (QBOW) phase. Such connection is not captured by current climate models through their internally generated QBO and MJO.

While female mate choice is well established, mutual choice may play a larger role in mate selection than currently recognized. Assortative mating is a common form of non-random mating in animals that can result from mutual choice. However, few studies address assortative patterns beyond the social pair, potentially overlooking assortativity in the mating pair and in the social environment that shapes reproductive decisions.

3.4 Attribution of the post-2007 methane growth As discussed earlier (Fig. 1 and discussion in Sect. 1), the atmospheric methane burden has been steadily growing since 2007 after a period of quasi-stability during 1999–2006. We use our CH4 + δ13C inversion to ask whether the addition of δ13C data can provide information on the sources of the additional methane. Figure 7 suggests that the trend in CH4 emissions comes largely from microbial emissions in a CH4 + δ13C inversion.

Detection of ammonia on Pluto’s surface in a region of geologically recent tectonism
Abstract We report the detection of ammonia (NH3) on Pluto’s surface in spectral images obtained with the New Horizons spacecraft that show absorption bands at 1.65 and 2.2 μm. The ammonia signature is spatially coincident with a region of past extensional tectonic activity (Virgil Fossae) where the presence of H2O ice is prominent. Ammonia in liquid water profoundly depresses the freezing point of the mixture.
