What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job in journalism, besides reporter for high school newspaper, was editorial assistant for Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I started out in journalism using a typewriter.
How is social media changing news?
Social media, as we know, broadens engagement and enables people to reach new audiences. The monthly, weekly and daily cycles are different.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist in the 21st century means finding stellar stories, compelling narratives, authenticity and a strong platform.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email pitches are the best.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use a PC or Mac (if I have access), as well as an iPhone, digital SLR and video camera (if needed).
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I started as a reporter for the high school newspaper. During my senior year, I was the newspaper's editor in chief.
