Saharan Dust has moved over the region and it’s creating dry and hazy conditions across south Florida. Here’s a look at the dust layer captured on satellite Wednesday afternoon. To get a better grasp on the extent of the dust plume, here’s a big and wide view of the dust as it covers Cuba and the Bahamas with the polluting particles as they stay suspended in the air. Much Deeper into the Atlantic there’s a larger Area of Dust, divided by a weak tropical wave.

Rain and storms made a big return on Monday. The downpours arrived in a couple of rounds and most locations had to deal with blinding rainfall, at some point of the day. Shown below, the Miami city skyline was draped with low clouds and reduced visibility during late afternoon storms. Marine alerts were necessary across Biscayne Bay extending into the Atlantic Ocean. The current pattern is dominated by High Pressure but that’s not always a calm and stable setup.

It probably felt “as hot as a fourth of July firecracker” on Saturday. Officially, Miami peaked at 92-degrees but the Heat Index was over 100-degrees. As such, a Heat Advisory was in effect for most of the day, expiring at 8 PM. Some areas were also blasted by holiday thunderstorms across Florida. Fortunately, things simmered down by sunset (good timing for fireworks displays). This pattern isn’t going to budge. High Pressure remains flanked on either side of the Florida peninsula.
