Blog: The heat returns along with the chance for strong thunderstorms

After a handful of days of low humidity the heat is back on for Hampton Roads. Along with that heat comes the chance for scattered thunderstorms and some of them could be strong. For today most areas will be dry. We will have a mix of clouds and sun overhead. High pressure centered off the coast will allow for warm and humid air to move in from the south. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s. The heat index will be close to 100 for some areas.

(WAVY) — The first full weekend of the summer is upon us Hampton Roads, and with that, the heat, humidity and storm chances are back in the forecast. Friday and Sunday are looking like the best days to target as storm chances will be low. Highs on Friday will be in the 90s, but with the humidity, it will feel like 100 degrees. On Sunday, we will have highs in the 80s, with lower humidity. Saturday will be dry in the morning, but during the afternoon widespread storms will get going.

Heavy rain may interrupt plans out on the water for parts of the weekend

We are in for a busy Friday as heavy rain moves into Hampton Roads from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur. We could also experience a brief period of strong wind as the center of the low passes nearby. Scattered rain will move in Friday morning. As the morning progresses the rain will become more widespread with heavy bands through the mid to late morning hours. This heavy rain will continue on and off until about 2-3pm. After that, we will start to dry out as a strong north breeze takes over.
