SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The City of Savannah will open on a normal schedule on Oct. 12, 2026, said Friday by a spokesperson for the City of Savannah. The federal holiday, Columbus Day, won’t stop the City of Savannah. All city operations will be uninterrupted on the day. Services that won’t be affected by the holiday are residential garbage and yard waste collection, recycling collection, street cleaning and Dean Forest Landfill.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Hurricane Isaias is approaching the northern Florida Gulf Coast as of Friday evening as a weakening system. Isaias spent much of Friday as a major category 3 hurricane with 120 mph wind. While the center of Hurricane Isaias is well west of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, some effects will be felt tonight and throughout Saturday. Hurricane Isaias has sustained wind of 110 mph and gusts of 150 mph as of 8 p.m. Friday, now making it a category 2 storm.

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – Beaufort County leaders held a public hearing Thursday to educate voters and allow them to weigh in on the proposed one-cent sales tax that county voters will see on the ballot. The first question asks voters whether to approve a one-cent sales tax.
