ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe Community College is hosting an artist-in-residence who is helping document a modern-day freedom walk retracing the Underground Railroad. This month, a group of people will walk from Washington, D.C., to Canada, following the path of the Underground Railroad. Artist-in-residence Kip Beardsley is documenting the experience through weaving. Beardsley uses weaving to tell stories of resilience and freedom.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Breast Cancer Coalition celebrated the recipients of two research grants aimed at furthering the fight against breast cancer. The BCC grants are intended to serve as “seed money” for projects with the potential to lead to significant medical breakthroughs related to breast cancer. This year, one faculty-level researcher will receive $50,000, while one doctoral candidate will receive $25,000.

Rochester marks 127th anniversary of Frederick Douglass statue dedication

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester residents, historians and descendants of Frederick Douglass marked the 127th anniversary Tuesday of the dedication of the original Frederick Douglass statue. The monument, located at Frederick Douglass Memorial Square near the abolitionist's former Rochester home site and his burial plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, is recognized as the first statue in the United States erected in honor of an African American.
