Brooke Patron, 29, who hails from the small community of Redvers, Sask., has taken her talents across the world and has been named the Head Coach of the New Zealand Ice Fernz, the country’s national women’s hockey team. Patron has lived in New Zealand for over six years. She decided to travel after earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan where she played on the women’s hockey team for three years.

The Melfort Mustangs are sitting atop the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings after falling short in the Centennial Cup last season. It was a successful season for the Melfort Mustangs last year in their league as they won the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Championship for the first time since 2016. The team went on to compete at the Centennial Cup where they lost 1-0 in the final to the Collingwood Blues. “That last game stung, so I think a lot of guys came back hungry.

The University of Regina Rams are used to being the underdog at this point in their season. However, the team is subverting expectations and driving further and further into the post-season for the first time in two decades. The Rams barely scraped into the playoffs with a last stitch effort in their final game of the regular season.
