Leading Well Begins with Reading Well
Leadership is more of a posture than it is a position. An employee can have great influence on their organization, whether they are the CEO or the new intern, if they are willing to be an example. Hard work is contagious and when a lazy CEO sees a new intern going above and beyond the expectations, it is both convicting and motivating.
How HR Can Help Small Businesses Dream Big
As a small business, I know you have some pretty big goals and dreams for your business. It may be increasing sales, adding another product line or service, expanding into another location or getting a deal on Shark Tank (I‘d personally go with Lori Greiner). Whatever your dreams are, HR not only wants to help you achieve those dreams, but we also want to help you make sure that your employees have everything all the resources that they need to carry them out.
Why Changing Your Perception of HR is Key to Building a Successful Talent Management Strategy
Who is the human resources department really? Who are these people that we love to hate because they don’t give us enough of what we think we want? Let’s refresh our memory by defining the actual definition of human resources.
Toronto Zoo Celebrates the Birth of a Rare Pygmy Hippopotamus
If you needed a little pick-me-up on your Tuesday afternoon, here it is. Kindia, a 12-year-old pygmy hippopotamus, just gave birth to a calf this past Friday at The Toronto Zoo in Toronto, Canada. This is the first pygmy hippo to be born since 1999, and is extremely important for their conservation, as these creatures are currently on the endangered species list with only 2,000 to 3,000 left in the wild.
How Hope Can Be the Adrenaline For Our Souls
Have you ever looked back on the life you’ve lived so far and wondered, “How in the heck did I end up here?” That thought runs through my mind more than I care to admit. It’s as if I planned a trip from Charlotte to San Francisco, only to wind up in Montana. Somewhere, somehow, I ended up taking a detour that changed the trajectory of my life, for better or for worse.
Are You Ready for Marriage?
Often, in the pursuit of love, we get so caught up trying to find the right person, that we end up losing ourselves. But just as important as it is to find someone who has the qualities we want, it’s important to take some time to look inward, making sure that we are meeting the very standards we are looking for in a partner. After all, if you’re going to have a “list” of qualities you want in a partner, then you should also have a corresponding list of qualities you want to exhibit.
Study Finds That Wealthy People Are More Likely to Cheat
1 Timothy 6:10 says it best: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” The accuracy in the scripture is undeniable: Research has shown that the rich are much more likely to cheat their way through life. They cheat more on their taxes and romantic partners. They are also more likely to shoplift.
You Are Who You Invest Your Time In
“You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn Prior to moving to Nashville, the act of investing money was something I thought about doing when I was a grown up. Spending was much easier than investing, and candidly, it still is. I saved, and made deposits here and there, but I didn’t create a solid plan for my future. I casually thought, I’ll deal with investing later because I have plenty of time.
The Problem in Your Marriage Isn't What You Think
In today’s world, so many fingers point to “the number one marriage killer.” Some are quick to attack technology while others blame children or infertility as the cause. Experts cite pornography, work stress and financial problems as the top reasons why so many couples choose divorce. But, in reality, marriages aren’t failing because of any of those reasons. The number one marriage killer is us. Here are four ways we may be destroying our marriages: We watch the movie instead of reading the book.
How to Map Your Career Path Before It Starts
Where are you headed? Maybe you’re already on track for your “dream job,” or maybe you don’t even know what your idea of a dream job looks like yet. Either way, now is a great time to start thinking critically about your professional future. First things first—you need to know yourself. This isn’t actually as easy as it sounds. Sure, you are yourself, but how often have you really focused on critically understanding your professional strengths, values and limitations?
4 Things We Wish We Knew About Sex Before We Were Married
When it comes to Christians and newlywed sex, there are usually two extremes. For some couples, they head toward the altar with the expectation that they will find themselves soon lost in ecstasy and passion—a reward from God for staying pure until marriage. For others, the idea of sex carries a lot of anxiety and fear—as he or she tries to figure out what messages of sex are “real” between the portrayal we see in culture, the Church’s teaching, and one’s future spouse’s expectations.
Episode 628: Derek Minor
On today’s show, we talk with rapper Derek Minor about his upcoming album The Trap, and why he doesn’t think Christian hip-hop should play it safe. We also hear about a church’s controversial plan to outsource their sermons, discuss the ethics of the coming AI revolution plus a lot more!
3 Surprising Things Entrepreneurship Taught Me About Faith
There are two things in my life that I hold near and dear to my heart (besides Jesus, the body of Christ, my friends and family, and pet cat, Cocoa): entrepreneurship and human resources. One of the many things I love about working in human resources is having the chance to bring joy back into the workplace and cultivate a culture where employees are free to love what they do. So, two years ago I decided to launch my own business helping companies do just that. But the journey has not been easy.
How to Recover When You're Over Adulting
We live in a culture where being exhausted, overextended and overbooked are the norms. We squeeze as many bullet points as possible into our daily to-do lists, and we feel accomplished and productive when every point is checked off by 11 p.m. But are we really satisfied with our lives? Is there true joy in our daily living? For most of us, the truest part of ourselves must honestly admit to a lack of satisfaction.
Religious People Spend Less Money and Are Less Impulsive While Shopping
Shoppers with strong religious beliefs are much less likely to go on an impulse spending binge, according to recent research published by the Harvard Business Review. The report, titled “Shoppers with Strong Religious Beliefs Spend Less and Make Fewer Impulse Purchases,” analyzed five studies that examined grocery shopping habits.
Report: US Churches Aren't Inclusive for Children With Learning Disabilities
Religious communities strive for their church to be known as a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of your background. But many U.S. churches are failing children with health conditions and learning disabilities like autism, ADD and ADHD. And this has been a persistent trend. According to a recently published study from the National Survey of Children’s Health, the odds of a child with autism never attending church were nearly twice as high compared to children with no health conditions.
Why Your First Job Out of College Is Crucial for Your Future
Once you graduate from college, you’re eager to dive headfirst into the job market, utilizing that degree you just worked so hard (and probably went into some serious debt) for. And even though most college graduates are eager to find work in their field of study, they are often left with mountains of student loans to pay off. Many recent grads are subjected to customer service jobs, or jobs that don’t demand a degree. Everyone has to start somewhere.
Study: Millennials Are the Worst Tippers of Any Generation Yet
Millennials are too busy taking photos of their avocado toast and acai bowls at brunch to pay any regard to their server, much less throw down a couple bucks for a tip. People ages 18 to 37 are much more likely to “stiff” their server, meaning they leave no tip at all, no matter how much their check comes out to. A survey from CreditCards.com found that 10 percent of millennials say they routinely leave no tip, and one in three leave less than a 15 percent tip at restaurants.
Are You Wasting Time Trying to Be ‘Happy’?
Over the past 15-plus years of ministry, there have been multiple times when I’ve counseled with a husband, or my wife has counseled with another wife, who wanted to leave their spouse. Now, we’re not talking about instances of abuse or abandonment. The spouse just didn’t want to be married anymore, or he or she had found someone else who could “rock their world” unlike their current husband or wife.
We Need to Talk About Porn
After listening to a friend in their late 20s share about their sexual addiction, it hit me that they have been struggling with this for over 10 years, a decade of their life. They shared feeling shame, unproductive scholastically and professionally, stunted in relationships and distant from God because of this struggle.
What We Get Wrong About Contentment
“How are you doing with that, Han?” I’ve been asked this question several times a week by deeply caring friends and family who recognize that this season might be a difficult one for me. And here’s what they’re referring to: In the past year and a half both of my siblings started dating people. Both of them are with people who love them well and who bring out the best in them. People they are planning a future with. That leaves me—the oldest—as the only single one in our family.
