Denton County man indicted on five counts in Texas, Oklahoma grave robbery cases

A Denton County suspect in two grave robbery cases in Texas and Oklahoma was indicted on five felony charges this week and last. Michael Chadwick Fry, 41, of Bartonville, was indicted on three counts of abuse of a corpse and two counts of tampering with evidence. On March 18, one of Fry’s family members tipped off Bartonville police officers that Fry had asked for money to pay for a U-Haul truck to move a body.

Mother of boy killed in Denton crash says police apologized after misinforming her of case status

After the mother of a Krum elementary student killed in a crash posted a viral video concerned about how the Denton Police Department closed her son's case too soon, the department clarified the crash investigation is ongoing. On Aug. 5, a babysitter was driving eastbound on FM1173 toward Interstate 35 in northwest Denton near Krum and crashed. The driver and two passengers, who are all juveniles, were transported to a local hospital with injuries.

What to know: Denton to briefly close dozens of roads for resurfacing in September

The Denton Streets Department has scheduled closures for multiple roads in the city during September. Most of the closures will last one day, but residents may not be able to enter or exit their homes by car for periods of time. Crews will apply micro-surfacing, a preventative maintenance measure, to major arterials and residential roads in four phases Sept. 9-28. Some roads may be partially or fully closed while the crews work.
