Chew my cheeks.
I saw a man who resembled you last week, as I braced my body for the impact of reliving a part of my own death… I felt like falling to the cement and screaming frantically at this innocent stranger, and at God. I felt like screaming at myself for remembering, and for feeling anything at all. Ill at the thought of any passing interaction with you. Your ugly dynamism lingers like a malignant infection.
A Party-In Post
I go to a party, The kind that celebrates something important, With lots of laughter and drinks. Not a large crowd, simply the kind that encompasses familiar faces and Friends of friends. I am there as the night charges on, Present and engaged. Making cocktails and Playing drinking games, Enjoying myself and the company. And as people become drunk, Joviality remains. Despite the atmosphere, The warmth and kindness; Surrounded by friendly people, Drunkenness For one fleeting moment, I think about it.
It Wasn’t That Bad
Perhaps you just misunderstood, Exaggerated, harnessed your melodrama. Perhaps you made it up. Fabricated parts, To garner attention. Or perhaps you did not. When you realize what happened, What was done to you… You’ll tell yourself; It wasn’t that bad. It will change the way you walk through life. Filling you with distrust and unease. And you’ll tell yourself; It wasn’t that bad. You won’t sleep the same, Tormented by nightmares, sweats, and the stirs of silence.

And He Keeps His Tongue
The manipulative words of man left me with such profound deafblindness; I could not make sense of the ordeals I endured. Unable to ascertain the depths of the diffusing malignancies, my experiences and their validity remained defined by the empirical malevolence of man. My corporeality and my perception were of questionable nature by his definition. Today, man still keeps his tongue; his modus operandi is still intact, and he still thinks himself upstanding.
The Face of Anger
Vexation Slithers beneath my skin, Tunneling through each layer, Constricting around my nerves, Percolating within me. The Experience Attempts to fracture my mind; Deplete my personhood, Contaminate my blood, Abscond my beauty, And Replace my deportment. In an attempt to Infect all of me - Part and whole - Declaring war. I have always thought Something must drive anger; It must derive itself from deeper emotions - Grief, injustice, guilt, depression, alienation.
Confronting Silence
Make sure to be polite; you're much more digestible that way. Silly girl! Walk softly; be weary of new places, new people, new things. Bad things happen in the unknown. Don't stay out too late. Don't go there alone. Dress modestly. And certainly don't drink too much - Actually don't drink at all. Wait, cover your drink too. Only sleep with men you love! Oh and wait until you've been on a very specific number of dates first.
Brussels Sprout, Bacon, and Date Kebabs

Press a sage leaf to the cut side of each of the date halves. (Set aside 8 sage leaves for the flavored butter.) Bring 3 quarts of salted water to a rolling boil in a saucepan. Add sprouts and boil 1 minute. Drain sprouts in a colander, rinse with cold water, and drain again. Blot sprouts dry with paper towels.

Grilled Zucchini Orzo
Photo by Ty Mecham Test Kitchen-Approved Author Notes This recipe uses a LOT of flavor, but don't be scared of it. Cherry & Almond Brussels Sprouts Salad
November 24, 2014 Now that Brussels sprouts are in vogue, they might be showing up alongside stuffing and mashed potatoes this week for Thanksgiving. (These Roasted Balsamic Brussels would make a killer side dish.) But you could also serve them raw in a Brussels sprouts salad. I got this recipe from a friend of mine, who brought a bowl full of it to our house one night.
Brussels Sprouts, Bacon and Spiralized Butternut Squash Bake
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Originally I was going to make this a Sweet Potato Noodle bake, but I had a butternut squash laying around, so I tested it with the squash and the consistency turned out so much better. So here we are, with this Butternut Squash bake! I’m making a new goal for this winter: make brunch at my place and invite my friends over. I was thinking last night, that I do too many dinner dates and brunches out, but never have friends over for brunch.
Shredded Kale, Pear and Brussels Sprouts Salad
Use up your winter brussels sprouts with this zesty and slightly sweet kale and brussels sprouts salad with spiralized pears and toasted almonds. Shredded Kale, Pear and Brussels Sprouts Salad This time of year, I love taking advantage of the abundance of brussels sprouts. I roast them into vegetable bowls, slice and bake them into frittatas, and I shred them into salads, like with this Shredded Kale, Pear and Brussels Sprouts Salad.

A vegetarian and gluten-free frittata made with spiralized sweet potatoes, kale, and goat cheese that’s gluten-free, meal prep friendly, and great to serve to a crowd. Sweet Potato, Kale and Goat Cheese Frittata Whenever I need to entertain a group of people for breakfast or brunch, I make this frittata. It’s my go-to. I even made at at my sister’s bachelorette party, and it was a huge hit. The pillowy goat cheese, sweet potato noodles, and fluffy kale makes every bite flavor and nutrient packed.
Brussels Sprout Salad with Apples, Walnuts & Parmesan
Despite the common perception that Brussels sprouts are unpopular — and my own personal experience which confirms it (my kids RUN for the hills when I make them) — every Brussels sprout recipe I share on my blog becomes quite popular. I guess the people who love Brussels sprouts really love them and the same is true for the opposite. Those in the love-them camp will find this sweet and tangy raw Brussels sprout salad oddly addictive.
Sweet Potato Chicken Hash
This hash is inspired by a brunch I had a few years ago when I was visiting one of my best girlfriends, Amber, in NYC. She took me to Alice’s Teacup because it’s cute and charming…and I’m a sucker for cute and charming! I had the Scones Benedict but the part I remember the most was the potato-chicken hash on the side. It was such a surprise and so, so good. I have been recreating this dish at home ever since and have swapped out the regular potatoes for sweet.
Golden Rice Biriyani of Roasted Vegetables and Cashews
If the test of a great dish is that you taste something new and delicious with each mouthful, then this northern Indian masterpiece is in the first ranks. It’s special occasion food there and it should be for us too. Here you will find our vegetarian take, easily made vegan by substituting soy milk and margarine. Vegetables are roasted in a ginger-garlic-cashew puree, stuffed inside a mound of spice-studded golden rice and garnished with raisins, more cashews and browned slivers of onion.
