Caitlin reports on the environment, climate change, Indigenous knowledge and Great Lakes history. Just as Milwaukee's regional sewerage district inches closer to a 10-year, $700 million contract with Jacobs Solutions, a city in Rhode Island is trying to get out of its deal with the company. After years of operational problems, regulatory scrutiny and litigation, the City of Woonsocket is trying to cut ties with Jacobs Engineering Group, which operates its wastewater plant, and Synagro Woonsocket LLC, which runs the adjacent sludge-processing and incineration facility.

A city in Rhode Island is trying to end its contract with Jacobs due to operational problems and lawsuits. The incumbent operator, Veolia, faces scrutiny over its role in the Flint water crisis and allegations of mismanagement in Milwaukee. An ad hoc committee has recommended Jacobs, which submitted a lower bid and was seen as offering a more modern approach.
