PUM3 is an essential suppressor of replication stress in homologous recombination deficient breast cancer
Abstract Most Triple Negative Breast Cancers (TNBCs) are p53 mutant high-grade invasive ductal carcinomas with a basal-like transcriptional programme. A large proportion of TNBCs also have mutation signatures indicating defective homologous recombination (HR) DNA repair. While HR deficiency is mutagenic and oncogenic, it can also compromise cell fitness.
Tumour specific HORMAD1 expression perturbs mitotic arrest and drives sensitivity to mitotic kinase inhibitors
|
Abstract HORMAD1 expression is usually restricted to germ-line cells but is also aberrantly expressed in 60% of triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs), where it is bi-modally expressed and associated with genomic instability. Here, we show that out-of-context HORMAD1 expression in mitotic cells perturbs mitotic arrest and generates aneuploidy.

From estate agent to surveyor: how I made the switch
The end of the year is always a time of reflection around careers and whether we should pursue pastures new. I made the leap from corporate estate agent to residential building surveyor and started my own business at age 29. This is my journey from one side of the property industry to another. I always loved the idea of a career in property, so estate agency was the obvious choice - it’s such a dynamic and fast-moving industry.
Broken back to track: Debutant's unique journey
Callum Walker has taken an unorthodox journey to Supercars, with the former speedway driver debuting this weekend. Walker will make his Dunlop Series debut in a Super2 ZB Commodore at this weekend’s Thrifty Newcastle 500. The 24-year-old leaves behind speedways for circuits, having endured a torrid 2022 due to back injuries. Walker moved from karts to 900-horsepower Sprint Cars at 16, but he broke five vertebrae across two crashes, four years apart.

Why Warrington Wolves' new signing won't play against Leeds Rhinos despite not being injured
Warrington Wolves will travel to the Leeds Rhinos tomorrow night, safe in the knowledge that they will be in Super League in 2022. After a brilliant 32-18 win over Toulouse Olympique – the side at the bottom of the table – relegation fears were eased all around the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
An apology to Lee Briers
Serious About Rugby League would like to send an apology to Lee Briers and his family. Last night, Serious About Rugby League wrote an article about Briers opening up about an ‘alcohol addiction’. but there has never been a dependency on alcohol, and, after an in-depth chat, we would like to apologise sincerely to Lee and his family for any damage to his reputation this has caused. It was lazy journalism on our part and we will be working hard to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
Konrad Hurrell, Marc Sneyd and Chris Hill: Super League players rage over controversial Mahe Fonua sinbinning against Wigan Warriors
Last night, Sky Sports viewers were tuning in to watch Wigan Warriors do battle with Castleford Tigers. Unfortunately, the night was soured by one major incident just before half-time when referee Chris Kendall decided to send Castleford’s Mahe Fonua to the sinbin. It was apparently for a late tackle on Wigan’s Jai Field, but bearing in mind that the Tigers centre actually knocked the ball on, viewers were baffled by the decision.

Club releases statement against allegations of racist abuse
Hemel Stags have released a statement detailing the allegations of racist abuse aimed at a Bedford Tigers player last week. Hemel played Bedford in a tasty fixture, only for one player to leave the field “in tears” according to one parent after being subject to alleged racist abuse. The travelling players had already complained about the state of the ground which met them with no changing rooms and toilets anywhere near the pitch.
How all 12 Super League owners made their money
Some Super League clubs are far more lucrative than others. But, across the board, all 12 Super League clubs have been stable (fingers crossed) for a good few years now. Here’s how all 12 owners made their money. Castleford Tigers Current owner of Castleford Tigers is Ian Fulton – son of Jack and Bridie, the former whom launched Fulton’s Foods. Jack had opened the business originally for poultry in the 1960s, diversifying into frozen foods in 1974 before selling the business in 1997.
Club given special dispensation for inadequate pitch
There have been complaints this season regarding the size of Bradford’s pitch. Within the RFL’s rules, it is recorded that pitches need to be over 55 metres wide and 92 metres long, but Bradford’s stadium Odsal, is now only 51 metres wide. That has led to complaints from a number of visiting teams, but it appears as though the RFL have granted Bradford dispensation until the end of the season as no contractors are available to rectify the problem as it stands.

Oliver Gildart is to join Wests Tigers from 2022, Channel 9’s Danny Weidler has confirmed. Wigan have had a number of players try their hand in the NRL in recent seasons with the likes of George Williams, Ryan Sutton and John Bateman all testing their mettle Down Under. And now, 24-year-old Gildart is expected to follow current teammate Jackson Hastings to Wests, with the centre out of contract at the end of 2021.
Six contenders to be the next Warrington Wolves head coach
With Steve Price heading back to Australia at the end of 2021, rumours about who will take over the mantle at the Halliwell Jones has begun in earnest. But, just who are six contenders to take the reins? Shaun Wane He was Warrington’s nemesis when in charge of Wigan, but Shaun Wane would perhaps be the best – and right – man for the vacancy. A Grand Final winner three times with the Warriors, Wane knows what it takes to win finals – something which Warrington have struggled to do in recent years.

Adaptive response to inflammation contributes to sustained myelopoiesis and confers a competitive advantage in myelodysplastic syndrome HSCs
Abstract Despite evidence of chronic inflammation in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and cell-intrinsic dysregulation of Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling in MDS hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), the mechanisms responsible for the competitive advantage of MDS HSPCs in an inflammatory milieu over normal HSPCs remain poorly defined. Here, we found that chronic inflammation was a determinant for the competitive advantage of MDS HSPCs and for disease progression.
Super League: An abuse of the interchange rule in the first weekend
Advertisement Advertisement Gamesmanship has been creeping ever more into the world of Rugby League; the slowing down of the game at scrums and drop-outs has practically been eradicated with the introduction of the shot clock. Meanwhile, the feigning of injury by some players who go down ‘injured’ has been addressed too; those that go down 'injured' after the shot clock starts will have to leave the field and not return until their side regains possession or alternatively use a substitution.
Castleford's defence impresses as Catalans held to just four points
Advertisement Advertisement A number of pundits had predicted Catalans to overturn Castleford on Friday night after two very different off-seasons. The Tigers had also lost talismanic halfback Luke Gale to a season-ending injury.
As good as he is, Ben Barba should not play Rugby League again
Advertisement Advertisement Ben Barba has had a chequered history; he was sacked by Cronulla Sharks in 2016 after testing positive for cocaine and, after playing a stellar role for St Helens in 2017, has now been sacked by new club North Queensland Cowboys over an incident in a casino in Townsville, Australia. Despite being a wonderful player and one of the most naturally-gifted Rugby League stars in the past decade, Barba's off-field behaviour should mean he never gets a Rugby League club again.

Introducing Golden Point for Super League is a bad move
Super League [VIDEO] has introduced a number of new rules ahead of the 2019 season and, for the most part, they are changes that will benefit the game.
