STORRS – Dan Hurley was a history teacher. Before he was a two-time national champion, a Rhode Island Ram, or a Wagner Seahawk, Dan Hurley was a history teacher. Fifteen years ago Hurley was teaching double-period world history courses at St. Benedict’s Prep in addition to his duties as the boys basketball coach. His curriculum started at the Dark Ages in about 500 AD and went through the Reformation in the 1500s. “Father Ed got a lot out of me there,” Hurley said with a smile on Thursday afternoon.

STORRS – The officials made it clear from the jump on Wednesday night that they weren’t going to let things get out of control. They may have overcorrected. The No. 1 UConn Huskies hosted the Providence Friars at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday and edged out a 74-65 win. Top-ranked Connecticut improved to 19-2 and 9-1 in Big East play. UConn’s win is one that the whole team agreed wouldn’t be featured on any sort of highlight reel after a grand total of 62 free throws were attempted in the game.
