No Time for “Primetime”

Being Seen Through Cosplay
With a grey tank top, blue jeans, an eye patch, and my hair in a ponytail, I pulled off a cosplay. Even though it wasn’t my first time cosplaying, I was excited to represent my chosen character. However, I was also nervous due to my character’s nature. I chose a character from a popular series called “Chainsaw Man.” The anime came out a couple of years ago, but the character I cosplayed came from the Chainsaw Man manga, which hasn’t been fully adapted yet. The character’s name is Quanxi.

Detroit Riverwalk Conservancy Plans to Complete Award-Winning Riverfront Redevelopment Despite Setback
The Detroit Riverwalk is one of the highlights of Detroit, being named the “Best Riverwalk in the Country” by USA Today for three years in a row. The clear waters with views of Canada are only one of the many wonderful features of the riverwalk. The carousel can bring joy to kids and adults alike, as do the plentiful parks. With the riverwalk’s liveliness, it’s hard to believe it used to be dominated by many abandoned buildings and industrial waste.
The Strokes , The O2 , London : a reminder of just how good they are
Whatever may have been lost has absolutely been found again. The Strokes are a band with very little to prove to anyone. The progenitors of indie rock as we know it, they’re now seven albums into a 25 year career, and have amassed a back catalogue of floorfillers that, tonight, they’re ready to let shine. For this first of two arena shows in the capital, the New York icons are more than content to let their music speak for itself, with audience interaction kept to a minimum.

Skip to Content, Navigation, or Footer. Delivering American University's news and views since 1925 An inside look at the workload of collegiate swimmers It’s 6:15 a.m. While most students are sleeping, including me, American University swimmers are already in the pool, and they will be for at least three more hours that day. That makes for a busy week, every week, for these athletes. “It’s a lot of time,” American head swim and dive coach Garland Bartlett said.
Lyrics of Wonder
Stevie Wonder is a renowned artist from Motown, a Detroit-based record label with a methodology inspired by the automobile assembly lines of the Motor City. Even among label mates such as Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, and The Temptations, Wonder’s musical prowess and voice made him stand out. Though he was born with a condition that left him blind, he’s a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. To describe his technique, he writes compositions for his lyrics to live in.

Sometimes on beat, sometimes in between. Either way, I have something to say. I grab the microphone and the words flow. I feel the freedom of control as an emcee, while everyone around is free to listen, or not. Either way, they can feel the vibe. I tell the truth in my lines, my life’s story.
Sleaford Mods - The Demise Of Planet X
2-5 Stars Much like the state of the country they wax lyrical about, Sleaford Mods are stuck in a rut. Since 2021’s ‘Spare Ribs’, Sleaford Mods have kept their trusty formula fresh by adding a few new voices here and there, and it’s this approach they’ve continued with on ‘The Demise of Planet X’, with collaborations including Aldous Harding, Sue Tompkins, and fellow Nottingham artists Snowy and Liam Bailey.

Hooper misses opportunity as Jackson Academy picks up first win
HOPE HULL- First-year Hooper Academy coach Dusty Baker thought his team was turning a corner as the Colts sought their third consecutive win on Friday against a winless Jackson Academy team. But after Friday's 46-21 loss at Davis-Henry Field, Baker was at a loss for words as he described his team's performance. "Tonight we played with a lack of effort," he said. Column: Playing up to the competition
Skip to Content, Navigation, or Footer. Delivering American University's news and views since 1925 American men’s soccer should be beating bad teams The American University men’s soccer team can’t seem to make up its mind. Panic Shack - Panic Shack
3-5 Stars A debut that presents its protagonists as a gang everyone’s going to want to join. This self-titled album from Welsh punks Panic Shack can only really be described as a fun time. It’s a record that has very much chosen its lane and stays in it - but it’s a lane the quartet master with ease, the camaraderie between them so tangible it charms, where the likes of ‘Lazy’ and ‘Tit School’ could threaten monotony.
Wet Leg - moisturizer
4 Stars A wonderfully crafted piece of work that cements the band’s staying power. Cupid’s arrow has made its way to the Isle of Wight and hit their foremost indie band right in the forehead: “I’m in love, and you’re to blame!” goes the final chorus of ‘CPR’, the opener to Wet Leg’s second album, ‘moisturizer’. Similarly, the rest of the record also sees love as a violent force that can’t be reckoned with, but can only be embraced.
Kae Tempest - Self Titled
4-5 Stars Easily his’s best and most unforgettable work to date. There’s something utterly vital and captivating about ‘Self Titled’ that feels new - even moreso considering it comes from an artist whose back catalogue is already in an enviable state. Easily Kae Tempest’s most personal album to date, the core of the record is formed around his gender transition, existence as a trans person in the UK today - in an increasingly hostile climate - and the bridges between his past and present selves.

Catholic starts summer workouts in preparation for 2025 season
By Cameron Harris Catholic's football team may be the hottest topic of discussion in the state. After winning back-to-back state championships, the Knights are ushering in a new era after hiring Jonathan Chandler as their new head coach. "We know the standard here is very high, but this is the 2025 version," Chandler said. "If we focus too much on the end goal, what we call focusing on the fruits, we forget about the roots."

Peter Doherty - Felt Better Alive
3-5 Stars The sound of one of rock’s most enduring survivors exhaling and having fun. On ‘Felt Better Alive’, Peter Doherty breathes a sigh of relief. This album is the sound of somebody who has fought through a multitude of demons in full public view, come through the other side and is finally beginning to achieve a sense of peace. It sees The Libertines head honcho further stake his claim to being one of the most versatile, poetic and naturally skilled songwriters of his era.
Column: Meltzer Center should be viewed as great addition to campus
Long-term positives will outweigh the current short-term negatives of construction Last March, construction began on a new multimillion dollar athletic facility named the Alan and Amy Meltzer Center for Athletic Performance. It promises to be a “state-of-the-art” facility for all students, not just varsity athletes. Despite the current challenges posed to students and athletes by the construction, the facility will be a great addition to the University.
