Former NICU nurse Erin Strotman sentenced in Henrico baby abuse case

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A multi-year investigation into former Henrico Doctors Hospital NICU nurse Erin Strotman will come to a close Friday with her sentencing as part of a plea deal. In January, Strotman pled no contest to nine counts of felony child abuse involving nine children between 2022 and 2024. Strotman worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Henrico Doctors Hospital and is accused of breaking the limbs of babies she was tasked with caring for.

Governor Spanberger vetoes legal retail marijuana market in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has vetoed a bill that would have made the sale of recreational marijuana legal in Virginia next year. Spanberger's veto came after state lawmakers rejected the changes she made to the bill they passed during the 2026 General Assembly session.

Virginia's retail marijuana marketplace not up in smoke -- yet

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Virginia lawmakers are still working to establish a legal retail marijuana marketplace, hoping to include it in the state budget before a June 30 deadline. State lawmakers say it would be irresponsible not to explore every option available to advance the retail marijuana marketplace, which they hope to include in the state budget — still unfinished as of Wednesday.
