Candace Campos joined the News 6 team as the new Weekend Morning Meteorologist and Reporter.

She comes to Central Florida from Eugene, Oregon where she was the Chief Meteorologist for the CBS Affiliate, KVAL. Before heading out West, Candace got her start at WSVN-7 in Miami, where she was the weather producer for over 5 years. Born and raised in South Florida, Candace couldn’t wait to get back to the Sunshine State. Her love and passion for meteorology came at a very young age.

ORLANDO, Fla. - If you looked up early Thursday morning in Central Florida and saw what appeared to be a glowing jellyfish floating in the sky, you were not alone. The unusual sight is all because of a pre-dawn SpaceX launch around 5:25am Thursday morning. As the rocket climbed higher into the atmosphere, it left behind a trail of exhaust that expanded and spread out in the thin upper air.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Central Florida is entering one of its hottest stretches of the summer so far as rain chances drop and temperatures continue to climb through the end of the week. WEDNESDAY After several days of scattered afternoon storms, much drier air is moving into the region, limiting storm development and allowing temperatures to soar. Only isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, with rain chances (30-40%) dropping even further in the next few days.

A plume of Saharan dust is expected to arrive in Central Florida late Thursday and linger into the weekend, bringing hazier skies, fewer storms, and hotter temperatures. The Saharan Air Layer, a large mass of dry, dusty air that travels thousands of miles from Africa, is common this time of year.
