Results We set out to characterize aiming behavior in a shooting task, where participants must aim and fire a cannon to hit targets (Figure 1A). This experiment removes the presence of any implicit motor learning (e.g., adaptation). In condition a, participants were exposed to either the ±15°, ±30°, and ±45° rotations or the ±45°, ±60°, and ±90° rotations at a single target. Participants quickly learned to compensate for all rotation sizes by aiming in the opposite direction (Figure 1B, left).
