I really love a parody, so my interest has always been piqued by the many such shows that have made their way to the Edinburgh Fringe over the years. So of course I pricked my ears when I heard about the musical 'Heated Rivalry' parody that's headed from LA to Gilded Balloon Patter House this summer.

If you are an edfringe regular (and I think many of our readers are) you’ll probably be aware of the company Spies Like Us and their energetic, funny and physical shows. This year, the company’s co-Artistic Director Hamish Lloyd Barnes is headed to Edinburgh with his first solo outing, a character comedy show in which he plays a range of characters and even inanimate objects. We are of course anticipating great things from it.

You may already have heard good things about ‘The Last Man’, a new English language version of a Korean hit musical by Jishik Kim and Seungyeon Kwon, which is currently completing a run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant. This new production benefits from dramaturgy by Jethro Compton and direction from its original Korean director Daljung Kim. It’s a solo show, with two different actors – Nabi Brown and Lex Lee (pictured) – alternately performing.
