Judicial activism at work in recent court ruling
“The Legislature shall provide by law the requirements for residence, registration, absentee voting, and administration of elections.” It doesn’t get much clearer than that line in Article IV, Section 3 of Montana’s Constitution. Unless of course you’re an activist judge who doesn’t like common sense laws duly passed by the people’s representatives, the democratically elected Legislature.

Regulations stand in the way of attainable housing
We are five of the youngest lawmakers in the Montana Legislature. At 20, 21, 24, 29, and 31 years old, we are in various stages of renting and home ownership, and all of us are concerned about the housing crisis facing Montana. In every one of our communities - Billings, Belgrade, Columbia Falls, and even Malta - housing is rapidly becoming more expensive and harder to find.

MTLeg Viewpoint: Regulations Stand In The Way Of Attainable Housing
"We can’t wait for solutions and hope the problem goes away. If young people can’t afford to live and raise a family here, the future of Montana is at stake." Safeguarding Our Outdoor Heritage
The rights to hunt, fish and access our public lands are engrained in Montana’s Constitution, our state’s heritage, and in the hearts and minds of the people you elect to represent you in Helena. Republican legislators include landowners, avid hunters, fishermen and women, competitive shooters, hikers, ATV riders, boaters, skiers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all types. Montana’s outdoor heritage is our way of life and policies that impact the outdoor experience are near and dear to our hearts.
Guest column: Montana Republicans protected individual rights
Guest column: Montana Republicans protected individual rights Montanans are fiercely independent and cherish our constitutional rights and freedoms. We are proud to report that this legislative session Republicans passed a series of bills that safeguard individual rights, and thankfully we have a governor who has signed them into law. Early in the session, House Republicans introduced House Bill 102 to expand permitless carry of firearms.
Legislature Expanded Education Opportunities
Education has been one of the most disrupted sectors by COVID-19. The ripple effects of school closures and remote learning have further put pressure on families and our economy. The Legislature responded by giving more flexibility to students, families, and educators to engage in individualized learning. We began the session by providing local school boards with stability as they were beginning their annual budgeting process.

Responsible budget will drive economic comeback
by Wylie Galt, Casey Knudsen, Sue Vinton | May 10, 2021 12:00 AM The primary constitutional duty of the Montana Legislature each session is to pass a balanced two-year state budget. House Bill 2 is the state budget bill and it reflects months of work by House and Senate committees to set Montana’s economy up for a strong comeback through responsible state spending and tax reductions.
Opinion: Montanans can be proud of 67th Legislature
Opinion: Montanans can be proud of 67th Legislature The 67th session of the Montana Legislature is one that Montanans can be proud of. Voters sent us to Helena with a mandate to change the way state government does business. At the beginning of the session, we made policy promises that we are proud to report we have delivered on. Our primary constitutional duty is to pass a balanced state budget.
Legislature Advancing Key Infrastructure and Conservation Projects
In recent weeks, the Montana Legislature has advanced bills to support critical infrastructure and conservation projects across the state. Starting with House Bill 632, Republicans committed to investing the latest round of federal COVID relief dollars in infrastructure, telecommunications, and economic stabilization that will support our economy for future generations. While it was fiscally irresponsible for Congress to pile up more national debt, we invested the funds wisely.

A Representative's 'First Bill'
It is week five for the Montana Legislature, and I apologize I have not written home earlier in the session. We have passed several good bills through the House, including providing inflationary funding for our public schools, electronic communication privacy, and a few bills that expand our 2nd amendment rights. I had the opportunity to be Chair of the Day on Feb. 6, which entails running the floor debate for bills up for second readings.
Knudsen Replies to 'Tasteless Mailer'
When I began my campaign for the Montana House of Representatives District 33, I planned on running a clean campaign, because if I have learned one thing growing up on the Hi-Line, it is that a man’s handshake is his word. My opponent and I agreed the very first time we met to be civil, to focus on the issues important to this district and not to found our campaigns on baseless attacks.
