MORTON, Minn. — In early October, the Lower Sioux Indian Community found itself in the global spotlight. The reservation hosted the International Hemp Building Symposium — marking the first time the event has ever come to the United States. “Oh man, it’s been insane the amount of preparation that goes into this, an international event here on little old Lower Sioux," said Danny Desjarlais with the Lower Sioux community.

WOODBURY, Minn. — The Barton family is known for being active and outdoorsy. From biking along the city’s bike trails to exploring new spots, they love to stay active together. But recently, they’ve found an even greater reason to ride—thanks to 14-year-old Patty Barton, a Girl Scout with a mission to help. Patty noticed there wasn't a place on the trails to stop and repair basic bike issues at Powers Lake Park, so she decided to fix that.

Lower Sioux Indian Community helps to build Minnesota's first off-reservation hempcrete home

ROCHESTER, Minn — Two years ago, we introduced you to Danny Desjarlais and the Lower Sioux Indian Community in Morton, Minnesota. The tribe was building homes on the reservation with hempcrete, which is a healthier wall insulation. Now, the Lower Sioux are part of a team building the first hempcrete house in the state off the reservation. The project expands hempcrete's reach.
