TAHLEQUAH – Amendments to the Durbin Feeling Language Preservation Act that shift full oversight of the Cherokee Nation Immersion School to the tribe were passed and signed into law June 25. Taught fully in the Cherokee language, the school, founded in 2001, had been part of the state charter program for 16 years.

CLAREMORE – As the Indian Health Service digs out of a decades-old construction backlog for medical buildings, the Cherokee Nation is moving forward with its own plans to replace an aging hospital it took over from the government last fall. The Cherokee Nation’s takeover of the decades-old Claremore Indian Hospital, deemed in “deplorable shape” by the tribe, officially took place on Oct. 1, 2025.
