NSW volunteers battle wind and rain to record east coast whale sightings

Hundreds of volunteers have braved the wind and rain for a citizen science experiment to count migrating whales. The Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans' (ORRCA) annual whale census has taken place across the NSW east coast today. It sees volunteers across 27 coastal headlands spanning the state count the number, species and behaviour of travelling whales. More than 600 volunteers registered for ORRCA's 27th annual whale survey this year.

Almost 1.2 million hectares of southern NSW bushland from the Illawarra to the Victorian border could be merged into the state's largest national park under an ambitious new proposal. The National Parks Association NSW (NPA) will launch its pitch for a Great Southern Forest National Park today in the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens.

NSW Police will review footage that shows a police officer pushing a woman at a pro-Palestine protest in Wollongong. A video filmed by a protester at around 6:20am on Monday shows a woman falling to the ground after the officer pushes her while she stands in the path of a police vehicle at the Wollongong Friends of Palestine event.
