1 Introduction Migration of anadromous salmonids requires successful transit between natal streams and the ocean. In the Interior Columbia River Basin of northwestern North America, this migration involves several hundreds of river kilometers and requires passage through an extensive network of hydroelectric dams that present the risk of physical trauma or death to fish as they migrate through various spillways, turbines, ladders, locks and bypass systems.
