Presumed cytomegalovirus retinitis as the initial infectious manifestation of previously unrecognized Good syndrome in an HIV-negative patient: a case report
Abstract Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis is a sight-threatening opportunistic infection that is uncommon in HIV-negative individuals without identifiable secondary cause of immunosuppression. Good syndrome (GS) is a rare adult-onset immunodeficiency associated with thymoma, and CMV retinitis as its initial infectious presentation is exceptionally rare. Case presentation: A 47-year-old HIV-negative woman presented with blurred vision in the right eye for 1 month.
Propofol-Facilitated Recovery Sleep Modulates Cognitive Function via Slow Oscillation-Spindle Coupling After Acute Sleep Deprivation in Rats
1 Introduction Sleep deprivation (SD) is a common and underrecognized complication in intensive care unit (ICU) patients [1, 2]. Recent reports showed 66% poor sleep quality or severe disturbance during ICU stay [3] and up to 74% in nonsedated cohorts [4]. This disruption includes markedly reduced total sleep time, fragmentation of sleep architecture, and loss of restorative deep sleep stages on polysomnography [5].
A depression–like phenotype is associated with discrete defects in the primary hippocampal circuit
Abstract Major depressive disorder is known to disturb the hippocampus, but how this impacts signal processing performed by the structure remains poorly understood. Here, we report that single housing (7-10 days) promotes a depression-like phenotype in young adult mice that is associated with a robust, yet surprisingly discreet defect in information flow across the primary hippocampal circuit.

An end-to-end generalizable deep learning framework to comprehensively analyze transcriptional regulation
Abstract Genome annotation currently requires performing dozens of molecular assays in hundreds of cell and tissue samples, an expensive endeavor which is impractical to replicate across all species and conditions of interest.

Cocaine Blocks Cholinergic Activity in the Medial Habenula Prior to But Not After Induced Preference for the Drug
Abstract Descending projections from the medial habenula potently influence brainstem systems associated with reward and mood. Relatedly, the ventral, cholinergic segment of the nucleus has been linked to nicotine and cocaine addiction. Here we report that cocaine has no effect on baseline firing in the ventral medial habenula but entirely blocks the self-sustained activity initiated by endogenous acetylcholine.
UN should take action to de-escalate tensions across Taiwan Strait and also in South China Sea
Guahan Global Foundation recently noticed that op-ed articles written by Taiwan Foreign Minister Chia-lung Lin and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam Director General Chia-ping Liu were published in newspapers on Guam and Northern Mariana Islands. We agree that all attempts to distort United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 must be stopped. We also urge the UN to take action to de-escalate tensions not only across Taiwan Strait but also in South China Sea.
Trace Amount of High-Concentration Electrolyte for High-Performance Aqueous Zn Metal Anodes
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! In recent years, the demand for energy storage equipment has been increasing, and aqueous zinc ion batteries with high safety and environmental protection have attracted widespread attention. However, their lifespan remains limited due to severe side reactions and the growth of zinc dendrites.
Propofol improves sleep deprivation‐induced sleep structural and cognitive deficits via upregulating the BMAL1 expression and suppressing microglial M1 polarization
1 INTRODUCTION Sleep is essential for many biological processes,1 including learning and memory.2 According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global rate of sleep disorders reaches 27%, and it is estimated that short-term insomnia affects 30–50% of the population.3 Especially in the intensive care unit (ICU), 59–80% of ICU patients experience sleep disruptions such as sleep latency, fragmentation and circadian rhythm disturbances,4, 5 which are even in ICU patient survivors for at...
Graphene derivatives-based electrochemical sensors for salmonella detection: A Review
The paper presents a substantial review of the use of graphene-based sensors to detect salmonella bacteria in various food items. Graphene and its physiochemical derivatives have been used widely for electrochemical sensing applications due to their high porosity, high surface area, high charge carrier mobility, ease of functionality and excellent electrocatalytic attributes. This has allowed the graphene-based prototypes to be considered for detecting ions at very low concentrations.
Sub‐dose anesthetics combined with chloride regulators protect the brain against chronic ischemia-hypoxia injury
3.6 Both BTN and NEM preserved the BDNF and prevented GABAAR subunit imbalance in CCH brains Finally, we validated our in vitro findings regarding BTN's and NEM's effects on BDNF and GABAAR in CCH models in vivo. Same as in vitro, downregulation of BNDF protein levels was also partially attenuated by both BTN and NEM in vivo (Figure 4B). In addition, both drugs could partially alleviate the subunit imbalance involving GABAAR α1 and GABAAR α5 (Figure 4C,D).

Completely non-fused ring acceptors with low non-radiative energy loss enabled by end-group modulation
Completely non-fused ring acceptors with low non-radiative energy loss enabled by end-group modulation† Hao Li,ab Jiayao Li,bc Chenyi Yang,ab Jingwen Wang,bc Du Hyeon Ryu,d Lijiao Ma,b Yi Yang,bc Won Suk Shin, d Shaoqing Zhang *ab and Jianhui Hou abc Abstract Fine tuning the end groups of non-fused ring electron acceptors (NFREAs) is one of the effective methods to reduce energy loss in organic solar cells (OSCs) and thus realize high power conversion efficiency (PCE).
Roles of the ubiquitin ligase CUL4B and ADP-ribosyltransferase TiPARP in TCDD-induced nuclear export and proteasomal degradation of the transcription factor AHR
Abstract The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a transcription factor activated by exogenous halogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compounds, including the environmental toxin TCDD, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, and naturally occurring dietary and endogenous compounds. Activated AHR enhances transcription of specific genes including phase I and phase II metabolism enzymes and other targets genes like the TCDD-inducible poly ADP-ribose Polymerase (TiPARP).

Cell Autonomous and Nonautonomous Function of CUL4B in Mouse Spermatogenesis
CUL4B ubiquitin ligase belongs to the cullin-RING ubiquitin ligase family. Although sharing many sequence and structural similarities, CUL4B plays distinct roles in spermatogenesis from its homologous protein CUL4A. We previously reported that genetic ablation of Cul4a in mice led to male infertility because of aberrant meiotic progression.
