Anaerobic ammonia oxidation (Anammox) is an economically viable and eco-friendly nitrogen removal technology capable of directly converting ammonia and nitrite to nitrogen gas [1]. Compared to conventional nitrification–denitrification process, Anammox requires no organic matter; it generates lower excess sludge; and it yields low greenhouse gas (i.e., N2O and CO2) emissions [2], [3].
