What was your first job as a journalist?
Delivering magazines and proofing copy for my dad.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! But not by choice or for nostalgia. Perhaps more interesting is that I've used an old AlphaSmart style computer.
How is social media changing news?
Good journalists have good editors. Twitter doesn't have editors.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Spider Jerusalem (not that I'd ever emulate him)

Most of the people I wish followed me have other people read Twitter for them!
Why did you become a journalist?
It's in my blood (third generation) and I love to write.

Yes, I produced bad commentary.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Finish your first draft.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Early, by text.
What's your favorite drink?
Walker Black Rob Roy, perfect, served straight up.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Drinking coffee.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
It's true that politics is more about people than policy, but not enough time is spent with the people who will be affected by policy.
