It was also Queen’s first No 1 to be written by someone other than Freddie Mercury. The singer’s magnum opus Bohemian Rhapsody was the band’s first No 1 in 1975 – in the UK and across Europe. And his rock ’n’ roll throwback Crazy Little Thing Called Love was their first US No 1 in 1979. But it was bassist John Deacon who composed funk-powered Another One Bites The Dust – a song influenced by Chic and loved by Michael Jackson.

There are times in a season when everything narrows. No noise. No distraction. Just outcomes. Manchester City have arrived at that point. Starting with the women because they are setting the tone. A 0-3 win at Old Trafford in a derby is one thing. Doing it with that level of control is something else. There was no panic, no sense of occasion getting in the way. They went there like a side that knew exactly what the job was. And did it.

Not just about form, but about culture, depth and direction. For Manchester City, the last seven days have been one of those weeks. It began on Saturday with an FA Cup tie against Exeter City, a couple of divisions below City but travelling in huge numbers and with genuine anticipation. FA Cup days still matter, and the atmosphere reflected that. What perhaps nobody quite expected was the manner in which City asserted themselves. From the opening stages, Pep Guardiola’s side made their intent clear.
