Indian films have really started to pick up steam in North America. It’s now fairly common for them to crack the top 10 at the box office. In recent years, movies like Dhurandhar, Kalki 2898 AD, and Baahubali 2 have all opened in the top five, earning more than $10 million each. That’s especially impressive considering these films receive relatively little mainstream marketing in North America and primarily rely on support from the Indian diaspora.

The Odyssey is officially a box office megahit. While it opened extremely well last weekend, there was plenty of speculation about how it would perform in its second frame. Most movies that debut north of $100 million suffer declines in the 50–60% range, but The Odyssey slipped just 30%, grossing an incredible $87 million this weekend—more than we predicted. With a running domestic total of $286 million, The Odyssey is now on its way to earning at least $400 million.

One of the coolest things to happen at Comic-Con this year was that, after twenty-five years of being a fan, I finally got to meet the entire Broken Lizard gang at the after-party for their latest movie, Super Troopers 3. I was able to interview the whole gang on the red carpet before popping into the party for—well—more than a few drinks, including an Old Fashioned that nodded to the infamous syrup-chugging gag from the first film.
