The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) has approved a new multispecies fishery management plan, officially splitting the management areas for cod in the Northeast U.S. Amendment 25 has separated the management of Atlantic cod in New England into four distinct areas – Eastern Gulf of Maine cod, Western Gulf of Maine cod, Georges Bank cod, and Southern New England cod.

Russia trying to sell off more fishing rights via auction

Russia’s Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) has announced a new set of auctions for access to fishing rights in the country. Rosrybolovstvo said it has decided to hold electronic auctions on 20 and 21 July to sell rights to harvest multiple species. The auction will consist of 17 different lots, carrying rights for tanner crab, snow crab, whelks, octopus, sea cucumber, kelp, clams, and scallops.

Espersen said it will undergo a strategic transformation to strengthen its long-term competitiveness, which will see it undergo a consultation process that could result in the sale of its primary processing facilities.
