This was a landmark election and an important historic event: the first woman prime minister and the leader who changed things more than any other during my lifetime. But I was still only two-and-a-half in May 1979. I don’t remember a thing about it.

First, a quick question: have you ever read the 18th Century novel The Life And Opinions Of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, by Laurence Sterne? If your answer to this is "no" then don't worry, because Michael Winterbottom's critical success A Cock And Bull Story (2006) is emphatically not an adaptation of said book. It is, in fact, a film about the making of a film based on the book. Yes, that's right. It's that sort of film. The film opens with actors Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan wearing period costume.
