For some, the answer will be a definite “yes.” For others, it will be an immediate “no.” The question of whether a person can remember meeting anyone who was born in the century of Napoleon, Charles Dickens and Queen Victoria is a fascinating one and one which completely divides the population. But first, the bad news: if you have never met anyone who was born in a year which started with the digits “18” already then it’s too late. You never will do now.

Gregory's Girl - Comedy Rewind - British Comedy Guide

Women's football was not really a thing back in 1981 when Gregory's Girl came out. Not that it really matters. Bill Forsyth's film is not really about football anyway. It is about adolescent relationships and growing up. The story (such as it is) centres around Gregory, a teenager in his fourth year at a Glasgow comprehensive school. Gregory is about fourteen or fifteen and is physically tall and gangly. He is awkward as many adolescent boys are, but also funny and likeable.
