Winston-Salem, N.C. — A Winston-Salem school dedicated to serving students with mental and medical disabilities will close after the local board of education voted 6-3 to move forward with shutting down the Special Children’s School. The decision came during a board of education meeting where, for the second straight meeting, parents and teachers urged board members not to move students out of the school.

Suspect charged with second-degree murder in deadly High Point stabbing appears in court

High Point, N.C. — A 60-year-old man accused of killing someone on Bethel Drive in High Point faced a judge this afternoon. Investigators say the incident began with an argument over a dog. High Point police were called to the scene of a stabbing early Friday morning. The suspect, David Scarborough, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Xavier Martin. According to investigators, Scarborough allegedly stabbed Martin after Martin kicked his dog.
