New sewer rate increase to impact local businesses

CHICO, Calif. - The City of Chico's newly approved sewer rate increase is raising concerns among small business owners about sustainability and customer costs. Action News Now reporter Christine Stoddard spoke with a local restaurant owner about the financial impact. Over 5 years, the City of Chico will increase sewer fees by 162.5%. That's a 55% increase in 2027, 55% in 2028 and a 3% annual increase for the following 3 years.

Mountain lions “imminent threat” in Lassen County

Lassen County Sheriff John McGarva issued a statement May 13 that mountain lions are an “imminent threat” to Lassen County. From reports of one mountain lion haunting the deck of a private home to another walking toward a man with his dogs in broad daylight, the Lassen sheriff’s office declared that sightings have become more frequent. The declaration blew up online, with outlets across California picking up the story and blazing across social media.
