FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) — As America celebrates 250 years of independence, we are looking back at how Flint and General Motors forever changed the auto industry. One of the biggest headlines came during the Great Depression when factory workers made a desperate gamble that paid off and changed the rules for every American worker. In the fall of 1936, the men at General Motors’ Fisher Body No. 1 in Flint were fed up. The employees were upset about low wages, long hours and unsafe conditions.
