Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy (2D IR) is a multidimensional time-resolved pump–probe technique that measures the correlation of vibrational frequencies over time. By exciting a chromophore with a sequence of pulses, 2D IR measures the dynamics of the chromophore’s environment. 2D IR can classify samples by identifying the underlying spectral parameters that are characteristic of the particular sample.

By exciting a chromophore with a sequence of pulses, 2D IR measures the dynamics of the chromophore’s environment. 2D IR can classify samples by identifying the underlying spectral parameters that are characteristic of the particular sample.

We present a method for increasing the power of mid-infrared laser pulses generated by a conventional beta-barium borate (BBO) optical parametric amplifier (OPA) and AgGaS2 difference frequency generation (DFG) pumped by a Ti:sapphire amplifier. The method involves an additional stage of parametric amplification with a second AgGaS2 crystal pumped by selected outputs of the conventional DFG stage.
